The 2012 Peer Awards for Excellence cover two key business themes.

Whichever category you associate your entry with, you may in your submission wish to mention training, working with technology, social media, engaging with staff, managing change, health and well-being, empowering and motivating people, communication, partnership, teams, business strategy, value for money, coping on a shoestring and/or adjusting to the downturn.

  • Is a 'category heading' the same as an award category?

Due to the ‘peer’ emphasis of our awards, we handle categories in a different and more open way than many other awards. At this stage we have supplied broad keyword headings only, so people can go ahead and submit a wide range of entries. We plan to determine the actual categories headings when the shortlisted entries are known, in response to the entries rather than the other way around.

  • Can I submit the same programme for more than one category?

Yes you can, only each needs its own custom entry and speaker.

For instance, if your entry is about using social media to openly communicate about and support projects your staff are undertaking to develop skills in the local community, this could be submitted for the
    > Harnessing Technology for Learning category within People & Performance
    > Community category within Social Responsibility

So, for example, if you submit the project described above for the
    > Harnessing Technology for Learning category, your entry and talk would focus on your innovative use of social media and the impact that this has had
    > Community category, your entry and talk would focus on how this has been innovative and the impact this is having

You could even also consider the same programme for another category within the same theme – for instance this project could be submitted quite separately in the “Leadership & Talent” or “Coaching & Development” categories within People & Performance, so long as there is some innovation here in terms of developing leaders or as a coaching programme, for example.

Each submission is treated separate and distinct in its own right, in terms of entry form and whether it is shortlisted or not. Being shortlisted in one category has no implication on whether it will also be shortlisted in one or more other categories. For the conference shortlist each would require a different speaker for possibly different days at the conference, but the supporting colleagues can be the same. For the online shortlist, each would require a different speaker.

  • Can I submit different entries for the same category?

You can, but we will not place more than one entry from the same company on the same shortlist category, other than with the permission in advance of the company concerned. In the event that we receive more than one submission from a company for the same category, we may suggest that one resubmits for an alternative category. You can be associated with (for instance as vendor or consultant) more than one entry for the same category.

  • Can I submit the same programme in more than one year?

Yes you can under a different category and therefore with a focus that differentiates it from the previous year. Excluded from this are entries that actually won a Peer Award category in a previous year.

For instance, if your entry last year was about using social media to openly communicate about and support projects your staff are undertaking to develop skills in the local community, this could this year be submitted for the
    > Harnessing Technology for Learning category within People & Performance
    > Community category within Social Responsibility

So, for example, if you submit the project described above for the
    > Harnessing Technology for Learning category, your entry and talk would focus on your innovative use of social media and the impact that this has had
    > Community category, your entry and talk would focus on how this has been innovative and the impact this is having

You could even also consider the same programme for another category within the same theme – for instance this project could have been submitted last year in the “Leadership & Talent” category and this year under “Coaching & Development”, both within People & Performance, so long as there is some innovation this time in terms of developing leaders, for example.
